NRB Mourns Passing of Justice Antonin Scalia

Manassas, VA – NRB mourns the recent death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

“Justice Scalia was a man of honor and unwavering resolve in his commitment to support and defend the United States Constitution,” stated Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of NRB. “My heart and prayers are with his family, and I mourn with my countrymen at the passing of this vigilant watchman over the fundamental principles and freedoms of our American Republic.”

A man of great intellect, quick wit, and care for people – even those who vehemently disagreed with him – Justice Scalia demonstrated through his rulings and writings a stalwart belief in the importance of our nation’s foundational principles as laid out in the Constitution.  As such, Justice Scalia became one of the most powerful leaders in our nation for positions honoring the defense of human life, the integrity of marriage, and the fundamental freedoms of religion, speech, and all others espoused in the Bill of Rights. Moreover, he insisted that each branch of government, including the Supreme Court, respect its proper constitutional bounds for the good of the country.

Dr. Johnson continued, “While other voices desire to bend the words of our nation’s founding charter to positions and policies they favor, Justice Scalia adamantly sought to maintain its framework, and, therefore, the integrity of the American Republic.”

Regarding a new appointment to fill Justice Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court, NRB sent a letter today to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, standing with him in his decision to wait until after the November elections.

Dr. Johnson noted, “The American people began to vote for change in 2014 by giving a new party control of the chamber, and the people will have a chance to speak again in the months ahead essentially on the fate of all three branches of government.”
