WASHINGTON (NRB) – Former United States Senator Bill Armstrong (R-Colo.), president of Colorado Christian University, passed away July 5 after a long battle with cancer. The following statement was issued today by Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of National Religious Broadcasters, in response to the death of Armstrong:
“I know I speak for all NRB members in expressing deep grief over the death of Bill Armstrong. As a senator and later as President of Colorado Christian University, Armstrong was a Christian statesman and champion for those things evangelicals hold most dear. He was a great man. I was able to recently pray with Armstrong as he faced the final phase of the illness that took his life this week. CCU is a one of the newest members of the Intercollegiate NRB, and two students from this outstanding university are with me today at Oxford for NRB’s Oxford Distinguished Scholar’s program. While he will be sorely missed, the legacy of Armstrong is one worthy of following by other Christian public servants and leaders. My prayers are with the Armstrong family and CCU as they grieve his loss, even while knowing he is now enjoying his eternal reward.”
