Manassas, VA– As undercover videos have revealed key Planned Parenthood officials describing and negotiating the sale of aborted babies’ body parts, anger and scrutiny are increasing against the nation’s largest abortion organization. NRB has raised its voice for legislation that would ensure no federal funding goes to abortion and has called for an immediate moratorium on any funding for Planned Parenthood, particularly as Congress investigates these “fetal tissue” trafficking allegations.
“The camera doesn’t lie,” said Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of NRB. “Planned Parenthood can attempt to distract and obfuscate, but there is no doubt about the horrific, evil practices of this abortion behemoth in dismembering prenatal babies and being compensated for their parts.”
On Tuesday, July 14, the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released its first hidden-camera video, which revealed a conversation with Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director for Medical Services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In the video, Nucatola admitted that Planned Parenthood abortionists can and will alter late abortion procedures to facilitate the harvesting of intact baby body parts – specifically mentioning hearts, lungs, livers, and intact heads – in order to fill specific pre-orders.
CMP released a second video last week showing another Planned Parenthood leader, Mary Gatter, negotiating the price for supplying baby body parts and joking, "I want a Lamborghini." In a third graphic and further disturbing video posted online yesterday, a former “procurement technician” employed by a partnering fetal tissue company blows the whistle on day-to-day operations inside Planned Parenthood. In addition, the latest video also appears to show footage of technicians picking through body parts. CMP identifies Savita Ginde, Vice President and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains in Denver, CO, as saying, “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”
A letter to Congressional leaders signed by more than 40 leaders, including Dr. Johnson, highlighted information from Planned Parenthood’s own 2013-2014 annual report showing that it received $528 million in taxpayer money and had total revenue of more than $1.3 billion. The coalition letter also highlights that Planned Parenthood itself claimed to perform 327,653 abortions, or as the letter states, “1 baby every 96 seconds.” Dr. Johnson and the other signers summed up their position, “We do not believe that we should turn a blind eye… or that Americans should continue to fund elective abortion.” In particular, they declared that Planned Parenthood should not continue to receive public funding while under investigation for the atrocious practices revealed in CMP’s videos.
Sadly, voices on the political Left have so far been silent or defensive of Planned Parenthood. Some prominent figures claim not to have even viewed the videos. Dr. Johnson today urged them to watch the footage and to speak out against the practices uncovered. “There should be voices raised in defiance of Planned Parenthood across the political spectrum,” he said. “These videos clearly indicate that both mothers and children are being victimized, apparently without remorse.”
More videos are likely to be unveiled in the days and weeks ahead.
