NASHVILLE (NRB) – Voice of the Martyrs received an NRB Milestone Award on Friday, March 2, during the Closing Gala at Proclaim 18, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
NRB’s Milestone Awards are presented each year at the association’s annual Convention to pioneers in Christian communications who have demonstrated exemplary service in the industry for five decades or longer.
The Voice of the Martyrs is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian missions organization dedicated to serving our persecuted family worldwide through practical and spiritual assistance and leading other members of the body of Christ into fellowship with them. VOM was founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who was imprisoned for 14 years in Communist Romania for his faith in Christ; his wife, Sabina, was imprisoned for three years. In 1965, the Wurmbrands were ransomed out of Romania, and soon thereafter established the global network of missions of which VOM is a part. The Wurmbrands based these missions on Hebrews 13:3, which instructs us to “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”
“It is wonderful for NRB to recognize the amazing legacy of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand through this Milestone Award,” said Todd Nettleton, host of The Voice of the Martyrs Radio.
“The Wurmbrands truly lived an exemplary Christian life, willing to endure any hardship and make any sacrifice to follow Christ, all the while loving and forgiving their persecutors and seeking to reach them with Christ’s love,” he added. “The work that VOM continues today, serving our persecuted family in 68 nations, is the fulfillment of Richard and Sabina’s heart and vision to inspire Christians everywhere to answer the biblical call to ‘remember those in bonds’ (Hebrews 13.3).”
The Milestone Award was one of 26 awards that were presented during Proclaim 18, which took place February 27-March 2, 2018, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. For the complete list of 2018 award recipients, click here.
