NASHVILLE (NRB) – Blue Ridge Broadcasting’s 106.9 the Light in Asheville, North Carolina, received the 2018 NRB Radio Station of the Year Award on Friday, March 2, at Proclaim 18, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
The NRB Radio Station of the Year Award recognizes a radio station that is innovative, locally focused, and that effectively impacts its market through community service, promotions and marketing, outreach, ratings, and/or other means. The emphasis is not on market, numbers, or the size of the budgets. It is on how God has used the station over the last 12 months to make a difference for Christ, whether it is in a small community or across the nation.
Listener-supported 106.9 the Light was founded by Billy and Ruth Graham in 1962 and has been operated by Blue Ridge Broadcasting ever since. Committed to leading as many people as possible into a personal and dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ, the station encourages families and individuals with hope-filled music and solid, powerful Bible teaching
In 2017, the station donated 11,000 announcements – highlighting local and national ministries – and hosted evangelism-training events, a listener-appreciation event, private artist events, and a marriage retreat.
106.9 the Light provided three years of safety for girls facing human trafficking in India, funded programs to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and reached 900,000 Arabic speakers in the Middle East through its sister station.
The station also builds relationships through social media, email campaigns, events, and personal interaction with more than 15,000 prayer requests.
The Radio Station of the Year Award was one of 26 awards that were presented during Proclaim 18, which took place February 27-March 2, 2018, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. For the complete list of 2018 award recipients, click here.
