FCC Decision on Robocall Blocking is ‘First Antidote’

WASHINGTON (NRB) – The  decision today of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to permit telephone carriers to block robocalls, “spoofing,” and phone scams is an excellent first start, according to National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), the preeminent association of Christian radio and television stations and networks, webcasters and podcasters, and para-church communicators.

“The robocall and phone number spoofing industry has created a poisonous communications epidemic,” says Craig Parshall, NRB’s general counsel. “The FCC’s decision provides the first antidote against telephone harassment that hurts citizen and business productivity, burdens telephone networks, and represents an abuse of America’s telecommunications systems. We look forward to the Commission following up on this initial approach to make sure that networks use accurate analytics to identity and block fake and unwanted calls while not interfering with emergency and other legitimate phone services – all in a way that will be cost-effective to consumers.”
