Dr. W. A. Criswell to Receive Posthumously the Prestigious 2017 NRB Hall of Fame Award

Dr. W. A. CriswellWASHINGTON (NRB) – Dr. W. A. Criswell will receive posthumously the prestigious 2017 NRB Hall of Fame Award on Thursday, March 2, at Proclaim 17, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame stands as a witness for current communicators, a showcase of warriors for Christ who live exemplary lives of valor and compassion, blazing trails and leaving paths for succeeding generations to follow. NRB's most prestigious award is presented to an individual NRB member for invaluable contribution to the field of Christian communications, exhibition of the highest standards and evidence of faithfulness in Christ. Dr. W. A. Criswell was one of two individuals selected to receive this year’s award.

Criswell was the world-renowned pastor of First Baptist Church Dallas for more than fifty years; author of 54 books, including Why I Preach that the Bible is Literally True; two-term President of the Southern Baptist Convention; patriarch of the SBC "Conservative Resurgence"; and founder of Criswell College, First Baptist Academy, and radio station KCBI. He passed away on January 10, 2002, at the age of 92.

“Dr. W. A. Criswell was a towering figure in the Southern Baptist Convention and across American evangelicalism, known especially for his careful exposition of the Bible and his vigorous defense of the total truthfulness and authority of Scripture," said NRB & CEO President Dr. Jerry A. Johnson. "In his roles as a broadcaster, educator, writer, but most of all, as a pastor, Dr. Criswell was a model for innumerable Christian leaders, myself included. Having served as president of the college named for him and having had the privilege of knowing Dr. Criswell personally, I’m grateful that he is now enshrined in NRB’s Hall of Fame."

The Hall of Fame Award is one of 21 awards that will be presented during Proclaim 17, which takes place February 27-March 2, 2017, at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando. For the complete list of 2017 award recipients, click here.
