Thousands of churches will join “Stand for Marriage Sunday” on April 26 – just two days before the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments on the definition of marriage.
Pastors across the nation are being asked to distribute a bulletin insert and show church members a brief video explaining the importance of the pending decision and the impact it will have on everyday Americans who seek to live out their faith. Church leaders are also being asked to spend time during worship in focused prayer for the Court and for the country.
"We are asking that churches take time in their worship services to pray for the Supreme Court and the attorneys presenting the arguments, that truth would prevail and that natural marriage would be honored by the arguments and by the decision of the Justices,” explained Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, whose organization is spearheading the initiative through “Watchmen on the Wall,” their ministry to pastors.
"The consequences this decision could have on our religious freedom, the freedom to believe and live according to those beliefs, are staggering,” he added. “Should the Court redefine marriage, our religious liberty – the foundation for all of our freedoms – will be at risk. That's why we're asking churches across America to hold a special 'Stand for Marriage Sunday: Religious Liberty at Risk' event.”
For churches that would like to make the whole worship service focused on marriage, FRC has made available a number of sermon starters to choose from, including messages from Dr. Al Mohler, Dr. Jim Garlow, Peter Sprigg, and Dr. Kenyn Cureton, among others.
