Dr. R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries are celebrating two decades of Renewing Your Mind on the radio.
Although Ligonier Ministries was established in 1971 to equip Christians to articulate what they believe, why they believe it, how to live it, and how to share it, it wasn’t until October 1994 that the ministry broadcast its very first message, “The Otherness of God,” from Dr. Sproul’s landmark teaching series, “The Holiness of God.”
In that message, Dr. Sproul stated the purpose for the new radio venture: “What we’re going to do on this program for the days to come is explore the theme that is not only vital to my life, but is central to the biblical revelation of the character of God and is absolutely crucial for every Christian’s personal growth: to investigate, to reflect upon, to seek an understanding of what the Scriptures mean when they declare that God is holy.”
Since then, Renewing Your Mind has spread out to more than 300 terrestrial radio stations in the U.S. and internationally. It is also downloaded or streamed millions of times every month from RenewingYourMind.org, on RefNet.fm (Reformation Network), via podcast, and on many other Internet outlets.
“Twenty years later, the response to Renewing Your Mind has overwhelmed me and surprised me enormously,” said Dr. Sproul, who is Founder and Chairman of Ligonier Ministries.
Adding to that, Ligonier’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Chris Larson, said: “Over the past twenty years, stewarding this broadcast has been at the vanguard of our outreach. By God’s sustaining grace, we are trying to reach as many people as possible with the message of the holiness of God, never losing our confidence in the power of the Gospel, the power of God’s Word, to change lives and to renew minds. We prayerfully look to God as our source of strength for providing many more broadcasts in the years to come.”
In celebration of 20 years, Renewing Your Mind has been offering special programming throughout this week.
In addition to its radio program, Ligonier Ministries is home to the Tabletalk Bible study and devotional magazine, read internationally; The Reformation Study Bible with R.C. Sproul as general editor; Reformation Trust Publishing, the publisher of new titles by Dr. Sproul and other contemporary authors and theologians; Reformation Network, 24-hour Internet radio committed to the historic Christian faith; numerous teaching series; national and regional conferences; an extensive catalog with more than 8,000 unique Christian discipleship resources available online at Ligonier.org; Ligonier Connect, an online learning platform with thousands of students; and the Ligonier Academy of Biblical and Theological Studies and Reformation Bible College, educational institutions focused on enflaming a robust knowledge of God in their students.
The name Renewing Your Mind is taken from Romans 12:2a: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind….”
