Those attending the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit in the nation’s capital last week had an opportunity to participate in a straw poll. While most press covered the results of the respondents’ preferred 2016 presidential candidates, it was also very interesting to note that nearly 39 percent identified “protecting religious liberty” as their number one issue, the top vote-getter in a list that also included “pro-life/abortion,” “protecting natural marriage,” and nine others. Another 16 percent identified “protecting religious liberty” as their number two issue. If there is no overlap in those voting groups, then 55 percent of those voting at the summit identified religious freedom as one of their top two issues of concern. The full results are here.
