Pai’s Chief of Staff on FCC Partisanship

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai’s Chief of Staff, Matthew Berry, did not mince words on his perspective of the atmosphere at the agency.  At an American Enterprise Institute event this week, Berry asserted, “[T]he Commission is being run in an extremely partisan and divisive manner.” He added, “In the last fifteen months, there have been more party-line votes at FCC meetings than there were under Chairmen Martin, Copps, Genachowski, and Clyburn combined.”  He expressed concern that efforts at bipartisan compromise seemed unwanted and that the independence of the Commission was being surrendered to the influence of the White House, particularly in the net neutrality debate.  Berry concluded his remarks by stating that Commissioner Pai’s office wanted to work across the aisle, but “it takes two to tango.”
