Relief Groups Minister After Guatemalan Volcano Eruption

Food for the Poor bringing aide to Guatemala Volcano victimsRelief groups are working to help thousands of people in Guatemala who have been affected by the eruption of the country’s Fuego volcano earlier this month.

Food For The Poor reported in a press release that its partners in Guatemala are rushing emergency aid to help families recovering from the volcanic eruption, which resulted in the deaths of at least 110 and left nearly 200 missing beneath ash and debris.

Critical items being distributed include medical supplies, food, and clothing.

The charity also has shipped an additional 75 tractor-trailer loads to Guatemala, part of its ongoing aid to the country that will replenish the supplies being distributed by the Order of Malta and Caritas Arquidiocesana, two of Food For The Poor’s longtime trusted partners.

“We are working to get as much aid as quickly as possible to families recovering from this horrific volcanic eruption,” said Food For The Poor’s president/CEO, Robin Mahfood. “The need in Guatemala already is vast, due to the pervasive poverty there. It requires all of us working together. We are grateful for the deep and lasting relationships we have with our partners the Order of Malta and Caritas Arquidiocesana.”

Samaritan’s Purse, meanwhile, reported that it has staff on the ground in Guatemala to work with churches and deliver emergency assistance to those who need it most. Clean water, the group noted, is an urgent need because the sources of water have been contaminated by volcanic ash.

“Our partners will also be handing out food, sleeping mats, hygiene kits, and other desperately needed supplies,” stated Samaritan’s Purse in a report.

“Please pray for the people of Guatemala and the churches who are working with Samaritan’s Purse to help survivors in the Name of Jesus Christ.”

Other groups that are working to help those affected by Guatemala’s Volcán de Fuego include Convoy of Hope, Operation Blessing International, and World Vision.
