Vice President Mike Pence Speaks at Focus on the Family’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Vice President Mike PenceU.S. Vice President Mike Pence delivered a 30-minute address at Focus on the Family's 40th anniversary celebration on June 23, praising the ministry for its efforts and encouraging its staff by highlighting the White House’s commitment to the very things that it has stood for throughout the past four decades.

“The truth is that Focus on the Family has been a force in American families, a force for good for the past 40 years,” Pence said. “Millions of families like mine are indebted to your work.”

“And let me assure you,” he continued, “that there’s one other family that’s truly grateful for the work of this great ministry. And I promise you, Focus on the Family, you have an unwavering ally in President Donald Trump.”

Before highlighting the President’s efforts since taking office, Pence acknowledged the ministry’s founder, Dr. James Dobson, who he said has been “a friend and a mentor to me.”

“It’s remarkable to think that 40 years ago, Dr. Dobson launched a weekly radio broadcast that aired on a few dozen stations scattered across the country, bringing words of wisdom and encouragement to all who tuned in,” the Vice President said.

“It’s amazing to think that Focus on the Family broadcast now reaches into the homes and hearts of 38 million people every day,” he added. “And the programs and publications run by Focus on the Family extend your reach even further – around the world itself.”

Pence shared how the ministry blessed his own family through productions such as The Adventures in Odyssey and resources such as the Family Nights booklet, which he said is “one of the most cherished memories of our children’s youth.”

“Thank you, Focus on the Family, for helping us pour a foundation in our children,” he said.

In relaying President Trump’s thanks and regards, Pence highlighted how the President has stood without apology for the God-given right of every American to live out their convictions in the public square; stood with those who are persecuted for their faith – no matter the country they call home or the creed they profess; and stood without apology for the most vulnerable in society – the aged, the infirm, the disabled, and the unborn.

“This President believes that no American … should have to violate their conscience to fully participate in American life, and he has taken action to protect the expressions of faith by men and women across this nation,” Pence reported.

The Vice President also spoke of the President’s support of Israel, his efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, and his promise to appoint Supreme Court justices and federal judges who would uphold the God-given liberties enshrined in the Constitution.

“And he's done that, starting with our newest justice to the Supreme Court of the United States – Justice Neil Gorsuch,” he said to the sound of applause.

In concluding, Pence urged Focus on the Family staff to pray for America – not for a cause, a candidate, or an agenda.

“Let's pray for this country that we are so blessed to call home … because America matters far beyond our shores,” he said.

“And when you pray, pray with confidence,” Pence added before concluding his address. “Because I truly do believe those ancient words that Americans have repaired to time and again in much more challenging times than we face today are every bit as true now as they were millennia ago:  That if His people who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray, He'll do like He's always done. He’ll hear from heaven, and He’ll heal this land – this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
