FEBC is continuing to grow the number of radio stations in Ukraine with two more on the way in the cities of Mariinka and Pokrovsk.
According to the ministry, the plan is to establish the two new radio stations by the end of the year. Both stations are located near Donetsk, one of the areas hit hardest by the conflict with Russian separatists that is still simmering in the region.
“Our teams on the ground tell us daily shootings are a part of everyday life in these cities, and nearly everyone still living there has lost a friend or family member in the war,” FEBC reported recently.
“For many young children in the region, war has raged around them for a good part of their life — they don’t know a world without it,” the ministry added. “The programs being aired here talk about the hope found in Jesus, and some of the programs are geared towards these children who are so used to war.”
Last fall, FEBC launched its fifth Ukraine-based radio station in a town where no radio stations previously existed, and earlier in the year, FEBC launched a new station in Odessa, Ukraine – the third largest city in the country, with a potential listening audience of 1.2 million people. It also launched a station in the Eastern Ukraine city of Shastya, right in the heart of the region’s conflict zone.
“It’s because of this war that FEBC was granted permission to start broadcasting in the region, and other surrounding areas,” the ministry explained in a report last summer. “FEBC’s messages of hope and peace are a welcome relief to those on both sides of the conflict who’ve fled their homes and lost family members.”
In September, FEBC reported that “God is moving the hearts of local officials to grant us licenses all across the country because they can see how the message of Jesus Christ is giving hope to their people.”
“The opportunities in Ukraine continue and we are so glad to be a part of God’s kingdom work in this country,” it added. “Thank you for praying and supporting this ministry. God is truly making himself known in Ukraine.”
FEBC has been actively broadcasting in Ukraine for the past two decades through local stations. In 2012, its first FM station was opened in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
