NRB, NRBTV, and Bott Radio at #SBCAM18

Ronnie Floyd and Jerry Johnson at SBC 2018NRB was among the exhibitors at the 2018 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, together with NRB members NRBTV and Bott Radio Network, which conducted interviews from the NRB booth.

Representing NRB at the June 12-13 event was NRB’s president & CEO, Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, and James A. Smith Sr., NRB’s VP of Communications. NRBTV was represented by its VP of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Jon Wilke, and its director of programming, Erik Fritjofson. And Bott Radio was represented by its chairman/CEO, Rich Bott; marketing manager, Sam Rinearson; and SW Missouri operations manager, Jack Robertson.

“We were delighted to exhibit for the second year in a row at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas,” said Johnson. “It was a wonderful opportunity to advance our mission with pastors and other leaders of America’s largest Protestant denomination. I’m grateful for our partnership with NRBTV and Bott Radio Network, key NRB members, who were able to interview SBC leaders.”

Among those interviewed were H.B. Charles Jr., pastor of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida; Ronnie Floyd, former SBC president and pastor of Cross Church in Arkansas; June Hunt, CEO and CSO (Chief Servant Officer) of Hope for the Heart; Richard Land, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary; Barry Meguiar, founder of Revival Outside the Walls; and Calvin Wittman, senior pastor of Applewood Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

The 2018 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting convened at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, officially commencing June 12 and concluding June 13. During the meeting, Southern Baptist “messengers” (official representatives from SBC member churches) elected North Carolina pastor J.D. Greear to serve as the denomination's president, succeeding Tennessee pastor and NRB member Steve Gaines, who served two one-year presidential terms from 2016-2018.

The meeting drew nearly 10,000 messengers, as well as exhibitors and invited guests. Speakers included various pastors and ministry leaders, as well as U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who highlighted the accomplishments of the current administration but stressed the value, importance, and impact of people of faith.

“While strong American leadership has accomplished much, he (the President) and I both know that the ‘effective and fervent prayers of a righteous people [can] availeth much’ more,” the Vice President said.

“This is a President who knows that what you do, and the ministries of your churches make an extraordinary difference in the life of our nation,” he later added.

“As the President and I have traveled around the country, we’ve seen it.  We’ve seen that when disaster strikes, it’s faith communities just like yours that are often there almost immediately with the first responders; with an outstretched hand to bind up the brokenhearted, to heal the sick.  And this President and I know that you’re the cornerstone, not just of your communities, but, in so many ways, of our country,” Pence said.

After expressing his gratitude and promising to stand by them, the Vice President encouraged attendees to do as the theme of this year’s meeting prompts them to do: “Testify! Go. Stand. Speak.”

“Stand in the gap,” he said. “Because in these too-divided times, I believe that your voice, your compassion, your values, and your ministries are more needed than ever before.”

The Vice President concluded his address by encouraging attendees to pray for America, noting God’s promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

“I know that with your support and prayers, with the strong support of leaders at every level of government, with President Donald Trump in the White House, and with God’s help, we will make America safe again,” Pence said. “We will make America prosperous again. And, to borrow a phrase, we will make America great again.”

Earlier this year, the Vice President spoke at Proclaim 18, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
