Various NRB members joined in the massive outcry against Planned Parenthood after an undercover video was released last week showing a senior director from Planned Parenthood outlining the sale of fetal body parts.
“The horror of this story should be shocking to the consciences of all Americans. And Planned Parenthood’s response to this video is as chilling as it is unconvincing,” remarked Dr. Russell Moore, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. “Let’s be clear about what is going on, it is not only that infants, in their mother’s wombs, are deprived of their lives, but also that their corpses are desecrated for profit. This is not only murderous; it is murderous in the most ghoulish way imaginable. Is it not clear at this point that these are not health-care providers but pirates and grave-robbers of those who have no graves? The Department of Justice and the United States Congress should undertake a thorough investigation of this.”
On Tuesday, July 14, a group called The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a hidden-camera video revealing a conversation with Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director for Medical Services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).
In the video, Nucatola admitted that Planned Parenthood abortionists can and will alter late abortion procedures to facilitate the harvesting of intact baby body parts – specifically mentioning hearts, lungs, livers, and intact heads – in order to fill specific pre-orders.
According to reference sources available on the Internet, Nucatola has served as the PPFA senior medical services director since 2009. In The Center for Medical Progress video, Nucatola boasts that she is “the medical director for the national office – for all the affiliates.”
Notably, CMP released a second video this week showing another Planned Parenthood leader, Mary Gatter, negotiating the price for supplying baby body parts and joking, "I want a Lamborghini."
In a statement, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins noted how Planned Parenthood has been repeatedly caught on video engaging in unethical and possibly illegal activity.
“It is time for Congress to end taxpayer involvement in this immoral enterprise,” he affirmed. “The American people demand justice and want to know why they are being forced to send their money to an organization that is known for covering up sex trafficking, engaging in sex selection abortion, and now fetus farming?”
Similarly, Life Issues Institute President Bradley Mattes noted how “Planned Parenthood has done many vile and disgusting things in its sordid past, but making money by selling body parts from the babies they kill is beyond words.”
“I applaud CMP’s Human Capital Project for the rigorous investigation that exposes this heinous business and believe a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood’s violation of federal law is in order,” he added.
Following the release of the video, the House Energy and Commerce Committee launched an investigation, as did the House Judiciary Committee. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has also begun to make official inquiries with Planned Parenthood and the U.S. Department of Justice, specifically in light of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which was signed into law in 2003.
Also in the spotlight is the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36/S.1553), which would generally outlaw abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, a time at which science is clear that unborn children can feel pain. Currently, the United States is among only seven nations, including China and North Korea, that permit abortion after 20 weeks.
National Right to Life President Carol Tobias stated, “Lawmakers who have enjoyed Planned Parenthood’s backing should now be asked whether they will continue to oppose pending legislation to restrict the abortion of pain-capable unborn children after 20 weeks fetal age, as Planned Parenthood insists – and if so, whether they are motivated in any degree by a desire to preserve Planned Parenthood’s ability to deliver intact, well-developed baby body parts to order.”
In May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act on a 242-184 vote. A companion bill, sponsored by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and supported by 45 of his colleagues, is currently awaiting action in the U.S. Senate.
