On Friday, February 2, Movieguide® will host its star-studded Faith & Values Awards Gala to honor the studio executives, producers, directors, actors and writers of the best family-friendly movies and TV shows of 2017.
For the second year in a row, actor and comedian Terry Crews will host the Movieguide Awards, the largest faith and values awards show in the country. Movieguide® is the go-to source for movie reviews for families, and this will be the 26th year Movieguide® will celebrate movies of faith and values in Hollywood.
“Terry Crews is not only delightful as a host and an actor, but his commitment to integrity and moral standards within the entertainment industry is so commendable,” said Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®, in a press release. “We’re very blessed by the passion Terry brings to the Movieguide® Awards, and we hope this event is a light in our industry.”
Each year, around Oscar® time, Movieguide® hosts its annual Awards Gala, where it honors the best, most family-friendly movies and television programs honoring God and inspiring audiences with messages of faith, hope, goodness, justice, redemption, forgiveness, and true divine love.
“Ted Baehr is a pacesetter in championing family values in Hollywood,” said Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, NRB president & CEO, who will be attending this year’s Awards Gala. “I’m delighted that I will have the opportunity to again attend this important event that annually reminds the entertainment industry that work that honors faith and values is good for our culture — and good for their bottom line.”
This year’s event, under the theme “Movies and TV that Transform,” will be held at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Universal City, Calif., near the heart of Hollywood.
The evening’s highlight will be the presentation of the two Epiphany Awards for Inspiring Movies & TV, which honor the best movie and best television program in 2017 that “greatly increases man’s love or understanding of God.”
Other major awards will be the Crystal Teddy Bear Award for the Best Movie for Families of 2017, the Papa Bear Award for the Best Movie for Mature Viewers in 2017, and the Grace Awards for Inspiring Performances in Movies & TV, which are given to the best performances by an actor or actress that best exemplifies “God’s grace toward us as human beings.”
Following the award presentations, Baehr will present highlights from Movieguide®’s Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, which each year examines how well family movies and movies with moral, spiritually uplifting, and redemptive content did at the box office and on home video compared to other kinds of movies.
Author of The Culture-Wise Family and many other books, Baehr is Chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) ministry and its family guide to movies, Movieguide®. Baehr also serves as a member of the NRB Board of Directors.
