The Light Listeners Donate Nearly $250,000 for Pregnancy Care Centers

106.9 The LightListeners of the Christian radio station The Light recently donated enough money to provide 1,426 women with ultrasounds and faith-based support through the station’s “Heartbeat of Hope” campaign.

Three days before Mother’s Day, the station partnered with seven area pregnancy centers to bring awareness to their services including pregnancy tests, counseling, ultrasounds, and post-abortion programs.

The Light’s campaign reminded listeners that for about $175 they can provide a woman with an ultrasound. The station also shared how 95 percent of women will choose life when they have an ultrasound and see their child’s beating heart.

“The Light’s goal for ‘Heartbeat of Hope’ was to support these centers with awareness and financial help, so that the hundreds of women who walk into these pregnancy care centers each month will choose life,” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of Blue Ridge Broadcasting, which operates The Light, in a press release. “We are amazed by the hearts of those in this community and we give God all the glory.”

Listeners who donated had the choice to “give where they live,” choosing a specific city to support. Every dollar donated was given directly to one of these seven pregnancy centers:

  • Mountain Area Pregnancy Center in Asheville, North Carolina
  • Pregnancy Care Center Hickory in Hickory, North Carolina
  • Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Center in Franklin, North Carolina
  • Hope Resource Center in Knoxville, Tennessee
  • Crisis Pregnancy Center Gastonia in Gastonia, North Carolina
  • Carolina Pregnancy Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina
  • Palmetto Woman’s Care Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina

“We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity of God’s people,” Alexia Newman, director of Carolina Pregnancy Center, told The Light. “It comes at an exciting time when we are expanding our ultrasound ministry in such a big way!  God is always good and always faithful. We are grateful to 106.9 the Light for their vision to help and support crisis pregnancy centers, and their love for the unborn.”
