KCBI Listeners Donate 10,000 Pounds of Food to Help Neighbors in Need

KCBI Food driveListeners of 90.9 KCBI participated in the radio station’s Feed Your Neighbor Outreach and donated a total of 10,000 pounds of food as well as 6,000 Bibles, which were distributed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to neighbors in need during the month of June.

KCBI’s Feed Your Neighbor Outreach was part of the radio station’s Summer of Service campaign, through which it serves the DFW community and spreads the love of Jesus with the help of its listeners.

According to reports, nearly two million Texans lost their jobs due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), and area food pantries say that more than two-thirds of the thousands of people lining up for assistance have never before needed help.

“Marci, a young mom, lost her job due to COVID-19 and came to Mission Arlington for food and emergency financial assistance,” reported Jim Burgin of Mission Arlington, a KCBI partner that helped with the distribution of donated food.

“We asked about her relationship with Christ and gave her a Bible,” he continued. “Later that week, we visited Marci and her family in their apartment community. She shared that her grade school-aged daughter had picked up the Bible and hadn’t stopped reading it all week. Marci said now she wants to learn more about Jesus. The gift of food and a Bible may just be the beginning of an entire family coming into a deeper understanding of God’s love for them. God’s Word never returns void.”

Thanks to the generosity of KCBI listeners and partnerships with Mission Arlington, Buckner International, Sonrise New Testament Ministries, and Mardel Christian & Education Stores, many families, such as Marci’s, not only got the food they needed, they learned about the love of Jesus.

“KCBI listeners stepped up again to serve our community,” said KCBI General Manager Matt Austin in a press release. “Who would have believed they would literally drop off five tons of food!  We’re thankful for the response of so many to help make a difference during this difficult time.”

A member of NRB, 90.9 KCBI is the nation’s most-listened to Christian radio station that carries Bible teaching programs, serving the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

KCBI’s Summer of Service continues with “Service Day” on Saturday, July 21.
