J103 GM Steve Green Marks 35 Years in Radio

Steve Green J103 GMAt the age of six, Steve Green says he had a transistor radio glued to his ear.  While the music was “amazing,” Green recalls how it was the announcers that fascinated him. For hours, he would just listen to find out what they were going to do next!
By the time Green turned 15, there was no doubt as to what he wanted to do with his life.  Radio was the only thing on his mind (besides girls and cars).

Green’s career in radio began in July 1980 working for WERC 96 ERC and WKXX Kicks 106, an AM/FM combo in Birmingham, AL. While he was well on his way to a lifelong career as a rock-and-roll disc jockey, living the high life and enjoying the party scene, Green says God had a different plan.

Against his will, Green applied for a job at a Christian radio station. Green says it wasn’t what he wanted to do but it looked like a good opportunity. Needless to say, he got the job and God moved in a miraculous way the night before the first air shift while Green was doing a demo in the production room.

Green says God spoke clearly through the message in the music by artists including Amy Grant, DeGarmo & Key, Mylon LeFevre, Petra, and Bob Bennett. It was clear from that night forward that Christian radio was the path he was called to follow.

Today, as General Manager of J103 in Chattanooga, TN, Green is living his dream: radio that's not only fun and exciting, but that also glorifies God and draws people closer to Him.

J103 is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and moving into a brand new building.

In looking back, Green simply concludes that “God is AMAZING!”
