Give a Christmas Gift that Will Change a Life

2017 Gift CatalogsWith Thanksgiving now behind us, millions of people will be scouring stores and websites for gifts for their loved ones in the weeks before Christmas.

And while this time of the year can be a time of great joy, it can be a time of great stress for many.

“As we get close to Christmas, I’ve many times kind of get a knot in my stomach because when I’m thinking about my friends, family, and loved ones that I want to give a gift to … I know many of them don’t need anything, but you still want to give something – let them know you appreciate them,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham in the video introduction to his organization’s Christmas Gift Catalog, which features gifts that help and provide for persecuted Christians, missionary workers, and needy children, mothers, and families.

Like most other gift catalogs of their type, Samaritan’s Purse’s catalog features gifts of various prices ranges – starting from as low as $6 (the price to supply a disaster-stricken child with a blanket to get through long, cold nights) – and can be purchased in a loved one’s name. Shoppers can also choose to send a personalized card describing the gift and its impact.

“Imagine turning sorrow to joy by rescuing an abandoned child from the streets,” said Cynthia Finley, President of Christian Aid Mission, in introducing her organization’s catalog. “Your gift can provide a needy child with shelter, food, and education in the context of a loving ministry overseas.”

Below is a list of organizations that have gift catalogs, along with some sample gifts.

All organizations below are members of NRB.

Christian Aid Mission

Sample Gift: Wrap Poor Families in Comforting Warmth ($15-50) – Throughout the world, terrorism, war, and natural disasters strip families of their livelihoods, homes, and belongings. Makeshift tents and shelters do little to protect them from winter’s chill. You can beckon shivering people to step into the warmth of Christ’s love with the gift of a blanket ($15), coat ($20), or heater ($50). These life-saving items comfort hurting families through months of freezing temperatures, providing them with hope for the future.

Compassion International

Sample Gift: Electricity at a Compassion Center ($48 per child) – In rural areas, solar panels are often the only source of electricity for a Compassion Center. Your gift will help provide these panels, ensuring a steady source of electricity for computer labs, kitchens, and worship services. Your gift of solar panels to generate electricity will: enable use of computers and printers at the center; allow classes, activities, and workshops to be held at night; and train teens to install panels as a job skill.

Food for the Poor

Sample Gift: Feed a Child for One Year ($43.80) – Your donation will offer a yearlong Christmas gift by providing a hungry child with “daily bread” for an entire year.

Samaritan’s Purse

Sample Gift:  Give a Water Filter to a Family ($100) – For $100, we can install a simple filter that will provide a family with an unending source of safe drinking water.

The Voice of the Martyrs

Sample Gift: Christmas Care Packs ($30) - Christmas Care Packs are specially designed to encourage the children of our persecuted brothers and sisters in their faith. Along with toys, school supplies, and toiletries, each backpack contains an illustrated children’s Bible and other Christian literature. The packs will be distributed throughout the 68 hostile and restricted countries where VOM works.

World Vision

Sample Gift: Goat & Two Chickens ($110): With a pair of chickens and a goat, you’ll provide a steady supply of eggs, milk, and protein to feed children and help families. We’ve paired our most popular animals so you can give two or more struggling families a gift they’ll never forget.
