The 2017 Movieguide® Awards will air Easter Sunday, April 16, at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT on the REELZChannel.
Using clips of the best and most inspiring movies of the last year, along with interviews with the top leaders, actors, writers, and directors in Hollywood, the one-hour special will reveal why these movies were made and what it was about them that fascinated and inspired millions of people around the world.
“We hope this TV special will enable viewers to develop a strategy for their movie and television viewing that will help them live an inspired, abundant life,” Movieguide® Founder and Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr said in a press release.
The special will open with scenes from the Red Carpet at Movieguide®’s 25th Annual Faith & Values Awards, which was held last month. A packed house of Hollywood stars and celebrities joined with top Hollywood executives, producers, filmmakers, and television artists to celebrate the most inspiring, family-friendly movies and television programs of 2016 at the February 10 event.
The event was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Universal Hilton Hotel near the heart of Hollywood in Los Angeles. “The Inspired Life” was the theme for the evening, which highlighted how movies and television programs with uplifting content can provide enduring entertainment and financial success.
Each year, the Movieguide® Awards honors the Ten Best Movies for Families, the Ten Best Movies for Mature Audiences, the Epiphany Prizes for Inspiring Movies & TV, the Bradley Foundation Faith & Freedom Awards for Presenting Positive American Values in Movies & TV, the Grace Awards for Inspiring Performances in Movies & TV, and the Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays.
A highlight of the Awards Gala was Movieguide®’s presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award for Communicating and Living the Good News to M. G. "Pat" Robertson, Founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Inc., The Family Channel, Regent University, and Operation Blessing.
On the red carpet before the presentation, Robertson talked about receiving the award.
“It’s a great honor,” he said, according to Movieguide®. “I think the honor belongs to Ted [Baehr] and Movieguide®. I think they’re doing such a superb job. It’s my privilege to be able to support them, but I’m deeply touched by this honor and I know it’ll resound to the credit of this organization and hopefully what we’ve done.”
Now in its 32nd year, the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC), which runs Movieguide®, is the largest, longest-running international, nonprofit ministry dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”
