NRB Chairman's Travel Log: California and Texas

Bill Blount and June HuntAs the NRB Chairman of the Board, I've had the opportunity to mix pleasure with NRB business.

Recently, I was able to travel to California with my wife, Debbie. While there, we had the opportunity to visit the staff at Ambassador Advertising Agency.  Then, I joined former NRB President & CEO and now Salem Communications Corporation President & COO Dr. Frank Wright, on a more-than-800 mile motorcycle ride along the Pacific Coast Highway and later inland through mountains and canyons. Before we set out, I was able to visit briefly with Salem’s Radio Division President, Dave Santrella, and congratulate him on his new NAB Board membership. Additionally, we spoke of some common broadcast interests of both NAB and NRB.

After our California outing was complete, my wife flew home and I went to Texas for a Moody symposium to discuss the future of Christian Teaching/Talk radio formats and the changing technical and demographic landscape ahead. Upon arrival, I had dinner with TrueSense Marketing's Director of Broadcast Production, Scott Wilder. The next day, before the symposium began, Dr. Ron Harris, President of MEDIAlliance International, took me on a quick tour of KCBI and The Hope Center in Plano.  There we met with June Hunt, Founder and CSO of Hope for the Heart, and I was introduced to Dr. Bob Reccord, the new President & CEO of June's ministry. We also took a tour of the impressive 185,000 square foot lodge-style facility.  Lastly, we briefly toured the campus of Dallas Baptist University.

The Moody symposium was a small gathering organized by Moody Radio’s Vice President, Collin Lambert, and Manager of Programming, Dan Craig, with our discussion led by Chuck Finney of Finney Media.  The all-day function included a detailed discussion about the changing radio industry and how we as Christian communicators should be thinking to best utilize the new digital platforms and new ways to reach our audiences with the Gospel.
