Movieguide® Presents 23rd Annual Report; Again Shows How Most Family-Friendly Movies Earn More

Ted BaehrPro-family advocacy group Movieguide® presented its annual box office analysis last week and showed once again how the most family-friendly movies with the most inspiring, cleanest content earn more money at the box office and on home video.

The 2015 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry showed that the most family-friendly movies averaged more than $56.69 million per movie in 2014 in America and Canada, while that the least family-friendly movies with the most offensive, obscene, or anti-family, immoral content averaged only about $18.68 million.

R-rated movies fared almost as poorly, averaging only $18.81 million per movie.

“The evidence is abundantly clear,” said Movieguide® Founder and Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr, who also chairs NRB's Film Standing Committee and serves on the association's Board of Directors. “Moviegoers greatly prefer family-friendly movies.”

Movieguide®’s study extensively analyzed the content of the top movies released by the major studios in Hollywood earning $500,000 or more, including the major independent studios.

Dr. Baehr noted that the Annual Report, now in its 23rd year, doesn’t just examine family movies and cartoons for children, but family-friendly movies with the cleanest, most inspiring, and least offensive content.

“Most people want to see Good conquer evil, Truth triumph over falsehood, Justice prevail over injustice, Liberty conquer tyranny, and Beauty overcome ugliness,” he added. “They also would like to take their whole family, including their grandparents, to the movies more often.”

The study also found that movies released in 2014 with no sex, no explicit nudity, and no foul language earned more on average than movies with such content.

The story was similar when examining the Top 10 Home Video Sales in 2014.

Dr. Baehr presented these and other highlights from Movieguide®’s 2015 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry last Friday at the 23rd Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala held at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The 23rd Annual Movieguide® Awards will air February 21 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on the ReelzChannel. To find out what channel Reelz is on locally for you, visit www.movieguide.org/reelz.
