Joni Eareckson Tada, Founder and CEO of Joni and Friends, received a special honor earlier this month at the True Woman 2014 National Women's Conference.
On the opening night of the conference, Nancy Leigh DeMoss of Revive Our Hearts presented Tada with the first-ever True Woman Award for her decades of serving the Lord.
“I don't know any other woman who better embodies what it means to be a true woman of God,” DeMoss told Tada onstage. “So tonight, we had it on our heart to honor you and the Lord by presenting you with the first True Woman Award.”
Since Tada founded Joni and Friends in 1979, her ministry has provided Christ-centered programs to special-needs families, as well as training to churches. Today, Joni and Friends serves thousands of special-needs families through family retreats, and has delivered over 100,000 wheelchairs and Bibles to needy disabled persons in developing nations.
Furthermore, Tada hosts a daily four-minute radio program of information and inspiration that airs on more than 1,000 outlets, a one-minute inspirational program that airs daily on more than 800 stations nationwide, and a 30-minute television series that highlights the stories of people enduring difficult trials while continuing to trust in God. Tada has also written more than 50 books and numerous magazine articles.
In 2002, Joni received the William Ward Ayer Award for excellence from NRB. In 2012, the association inducted Tada into its “Hall of Fame.”
With her latest award, Tada was recognized by Revive Our Hearts' True Woman movement “for giving us a picture of the loveliness of Christ; for stirring us up to pursue holiness; and for pointing us to the promise of the new heaven and earth.”
After receiving the True Woman Award, Tada gave a moving message on how God uses hardships and suffering to make us more like His Son, Jesus.
Tada and her ministry have been longtime members of NRB. In addition, Tada serves on the association’s Board of Directors.
