Haven Today is celebrating 80 years of broadcasting the “Great Story that's all about Jesus,” and is doing so this week by looking back at God's grace over the past eight decades.
It was in 1934 that Paul Myers returned to radio after his life was reduced to that of a homeless alcoholic. The once well-known and respected Los Angeles radio personality had hit rock bottom when he started reading the Gideon Bible in his cheap hotel room. Convicted of his sin and devastated by his circumstances, he sought forgiveness and professed faith in Christ. One month later, he was back on the radio as a broken man saved by grace and The Haven of Rest radio broadcast began.
Since that time, millions of people have found comfort and encouragement in the ministry’s Christ-focused programs. Moreover, God has used the ministry to bring thousands to faith in Christ. Now called Haven Today, the daily broadcast airs on more than 600 stations in North America and around the world.
“Led by Charles Morris, this ministry that is ‘all about Jesus’ is continuing to provide vibrant, timely, biblical content ... every day,” remarked Peggy Campbell, President of Ambassador Advertising Agency, which represents Haven Today.
Adding to that, Franklin Graham, President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, expressed gratitude for Haven’s “steadfast proclamation of the Gospel all these years and for consistently pointing to the true ‘Haven,’ the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we can find rest and refuge.”
“On behalf of my father, Dr. Billy Graham, and myself, I want to extend our congratulations on Haven's 80th anniversary,” he stated.
In addition to its broadcast, the ministry encourages thousands more each day to live their lives through Christ and for Christ through the Anchor daily devotional guide. The ministry also has more than 335,000 Facebook “Likes.”
