Judiciary and Commerce Committee Leaders Investigating Planned Parenthood

After the release of an undercover video this week in which a Planned Parenthood leader reveals horrific details about the sale of aborted babies’ body parts, Congress is ratcheting up the pressure.  Indeed, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) declared, “When anyone diminishes an unborn child, we are all hurt, irreversibly so.  When an organization monetizes an unborn child – and with the cavalier attitude portrayed in this horrific video – we must all act.”  He called on committee leaders to investigate.

Already the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the House Judiciary Committee have launched probes.  House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte stated, “The prospects of altering an abortion procedure in order to preserve intact the organs of aborted children, including their brains, reminds us yet again of the horrors of late-term abortions, and the need for the Senate to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has also begun to make official inquiries with Planned Parenthood and the U.S. Department of Justice, specifically in light of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which was signed into law in 2003.
