Committee Expands Planned Parenthood Investigation

Leaders of the powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee recently announced an expansion of their investigation spurred by undercover videos that show key Planned Parenthood officials describing and negotiating the sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

In a letter to Planned Parenthood, Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and other prominent leaders of the committee have asked for “informal interviews” with Mary Gatter, President of the group’s Medical Director’s Council; Melissa Farrell, Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast; and Savita Ginde, Vice President and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. These individuals were featured in the videos released thus far, and the committee leaders want to assess “whether their statements, if accurate, are consistent with existing laws.”

The committee also sent letters to Advanced Bioscience Resources, Novogenix Laboratories, and StemExpress to get more information from those companies about how they obtain and assure “proper informed consent” to use “fetal tissue.”

NRB has joined a loud chorus demanding an immediate moratorium on federal funding for Planned Parenthood as the horrific revelations of these disturbing videos are investigated.  Last month, Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of NRB, stated, “The camera doesn’t lie.” He added, “Planned Parenthood can attempt to distract and obfuscate, but there is no doubt about the horrific, evil practices of this abortion behemoth in dismembering prenatal babies and being compensated for their parts.”
