Next Wednesday the Senate Commerce Committee will consider the pending FCC re-appointments of Chairman Ajit Pai and former Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, as well as the new nomination of Brendan Carr, currently the agency’s general counsel. Announcing the hearing, Committee Chairman John Thune (R-S.D.) said, “The FCC has significant responsibilities over one of the most innovative sectors of our economy and I look forward to asking these qualified nominees about challenges to advancing the public interest.” Undoubtedly, senators on both sides of the aisle will have a number of questions about internet freedom, spectrum, and a host of other subjects recently or soon to be addressed by the commission.
The hearing will commence at 10 a.m. on July 19, and a live video feed will be available on the committee’s website. Of note, like Chairman Pai, Commissioner Mignon Clyburn’s term expired last month. She has not been re-nominated by President Trump at this point, but she may stay in her post until the end of the current Congress unless a successor is confirmed.
