Pastor Andrew Brunson’s attorney, Ismail Cem Halavurt, this week filed an appeal with Turkey’s highest constitutional court. Pastor Brunson, a North Carolina native, has suffered for his faith in prison and now house arrest at the hands of Turkey, America’s NATO ally, since October 2016.
Earlier this week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested Brunson had “dark ties to terror groups” and spoke out against sanctions the Trump administration has placed on his nation due to its detainment of the U.S. citizen.
Pastor Brunson is due in court again on October 12. It remains to be seen if Turkish authorities will release him.
