ComunicadoresUSA, an NRB-inspired support group for Hispanic broadcasters, is inviting Christian broadcasters to the first Hispanic Media Summit on May 1 at the Miami Airport Convention Center.
Established four years ago after a meeting of veteran broadcasters and representatives of major ministries including Focus on the Family, the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and In Touch Ministries, ComunicadoresUSA seeks to gather resources and volunteers to train, network and support Hispanic Christians using mass media.
The association recognizes that Hispanics are not only the largest minority group in the United States, but their evangelical churches are a growing force in our nation, both in numbers and influence. Furthermore, while Hispanics don’t lack media vision, many do lack broadcast training and experience and are looking for ways to use the media more effectively.
“They’re bi-cultural and bi-lingual, and as skilled as anyone with the social media,” says CBN News Senior Producer and NRB Board Member Stan Jeter, who serves as ComunicadoresUSA’s President. “We want to give their pastors training tools so they can turn their youth into a media-savvy force for evangelism and discipleship.”
With this in mind, Jeter believes that by investing in Spanish-language Christian media, Christian broadcasters can increase the positive influence of Hispanics in the social, political and spiritual life of the nation.
And with ComunicadoresUSA’s vision for “transformed communicators to transform their communities,” Jeter is encouraging NRB’s experienced media leaders to consider what they can do to mentor and train Hispanic broadcasters.
A keynote speaker at the upcoming Hispanic Media Summit will be author and veteran TV and film producer Phil Cooke, who is also on the Board of NRB.
Members of the Executive Committee of ComunicadoresUSA, meanwhile, include Jeter (Chair), Steve Cordon from Vertical Link, Marie Tamayo from Eventers Miami, J Mark Gallardo from CVC La Voz, and Darrell Eash from Sound and Screen.
Program details for the upcoming summit are posted on www.ComunicadoresUSA.org.
