Praise Communications, Inc. is a non-profit ministry committed to “glorifying God and growing believers” through radio over WPRZ 88.1 FM and the Internet at www.wprz.org.  The ministry recently transitioned from WPRZ 1250 AM, a 5,000-watt station that was donated to them back in 1982, to WPRZ 88.1 FM, a 10,000-watt educational non-commercial station licensed to Brandy Station, Virginia.  They originally filed for 88.1 in 1999 and were awarded the license from the FCC in 2010 over 25 other applicants.

Though it faced the threat of cancellation several times, WPRZ has been kept alive by God’s will and the tenacity and perseverance of Sally Buchanan, her husband, Steve Buchanan, and their dedicated staff and volunteers at Praise Communications, Inc. Steve and Sally’s mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost, to nurture and help believers grow in their relationship with God, and to strengthen the local church continues as they look forward to growing the reach of WPRZ and Praise Communications and using new methods.

WPRZ-FM’s format is a mix of segmented music and programs.  The station was the first in their region to play Contemporary Christian music back in the early 80’s and now they are the first in their region to play Christian Country music in the afternoons on Country Light with Steve Buchanan.

The station also produces a program for kids called Kid’s Time Live that airs on Saturday mornings from 9 to 11.  It’s a live program produced and hosted by board member Charlie Goode and a group of dedicated long-time volunteers called the Kid’s Time Gang. The program is filled with kid’s music, games, contests, special “character” guests, and lots of fun!  Kid’s Time began in the late 80’s and has a very loyal following of listeners young and old.  Calls are coming in now from the kids of former Kid’s Time listeners!

The ministry currently has their property in Warrenton, Virginia (Fauquier County), up for sale and will be moving their studios to Culpeper to be more in the center of their new more rural coverage area.  The Buchanans have lived in Culpeper County for 30 years and Sally says, “We are hometown radio... hometown people, and a member of the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce. We want to be more than a voice in our communities! We want to be involved.”

The vision for Praise Communications' future is to be more of a multi-faceted ministry.  One day they hope to have enough land to hold outdoor concerts and even a camp for kids where they can experience and learn about God in an outdoor setting away from their phones and other electronic devices.

Sally says, “These days, it’s more important than ever to ‘be still…and know that I am God!’  We hope to offer programs and events to help us all do that and prepare for what the future will bring.  It’s clear that things on earth are winding down and our Lord’s return is drawing near.  We don’t know when...but we do know...it’s time to be ready!!”
