     Pacific Garden Mission

David MacCarrell

Dr. David D. McCarrell,
President

Pacific Garden Mission, located in Chicago, IL, is the oldest continuously operating Gospel rescue mission in the U.S. Through God’s grace, we celebrated on September 15, 2012, 135 years of ministry to the spiritually lost, homeless, and downtrodden members of our society. We are not only a safe haven for those who come to our facility, seeking refuge from a broken world, but we offer hope through the Word of God and the many ministries we facilitate on a daily basis to an average of 850 men, women and children.

Pacific Garden Mission is also the home of Unshackled! – the longest running radio drama in history, with 62 years of continuous broadcasting of true life stories of real individuals whose lives have been “unshackled” from the desperation and bondage of sin. With over 2,700 stations and outlets throughout the U.S. and around the world, and broadcasting in 14 different languages, God is allowing us to impact lives and to plant seeds of hope in the hearts of millions of listeners around the globe. We encourage you to visit our website at www.unshackled.org for more information about the program or to visit our online archives to listen to previous stories of God’s victory, grace and mercy.

Also, here at Pacific Garden Mission (The Old Lighthouse), many have made a profession of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Born out of the need to disciple these new Christians, our leaders created The Pacific Garden Mission Men’s and Women’s Bible Program Institute. The “Program” is a rigid one year-long course of study on biblical doctrine and theology, designed to teach our students sound biblical truths, as well as to develop stability through discipline, personal responsibility, and a solid unwavering Christian character. We currently have approximately 100 men and 25 women enrolled in our program.

One of the more satisfying facets of our ministry is to the many mothers with children who reside here at our new facility. In 1941, understanding the overwhelming need to reach out to Chicago’s homeless women, Pacific Garden Mission began a small but effective women’s ministry. Once again, God’s faithfulness shone through, allowing us to house over 250 overnight female guests and mothers as well as about 25-35 children on average who are desperately in need.
