Goforth Media serves the upper Gulf Coast tri-state area from Pascagoula, MS, to Pensacola, FL,with three Christian radio stations, each with its own unique format. Our goal is to provide a haven "where those seeking direction in life find hope and answers to life's basic questions.”
We first stepped out in faith in 1986 to purchase an AM radio station tied up in bankruptcy. The station was off the air and the tower was lying on the ground in the aftermath of a recent storm. With a lot of hard work from a dedicated team, WBHY Christian 840 was on the air by April of that year. The FCC soon approved a power increase, expanding the coverage area and bringing in thousands of new listeners.
God put another goal on our hearts in 1987: a 24-hour Contemporary Christian Music station. More than once, getting this FM station up and running appeared lost and just too difficult to achieve for a group without significant financing. The obstacles drove us to our knees. Thanks to God’s faithfulness, WBHY FM POWER 88 hit the airwaves in 1992. The bottom of the FM dial (88.5) carried the best message on radio to the Gulf Coast: God’s great love and His offer of salvation.
Three years later, Goforth Media added a Southern Gospel Music format through WLPR-AM 960.
The vision remains the same in this century: Bringing the Good News to our community.
Our Mission Statement reads: “Our daily mission is to serve our community by encouraging personal growth and social responsibility through positive programming that both educates and inspires action; to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us; and to have a positive influence on all who hear.”
Notice the action words: Serve. Encourage. Educate. Inspire. Glorify.
Each word is a call for action toward God and toward other people. We are servants to our fellow believers, encouraging them to obey God, teaching what He requires. We pledge that our words, our lives, all we are, should honor Him.
This is why Goforth Media links itself with the local community. In recent months, we’ve welcomed church groups to our studios, broadcast from the Waterfront Rescue Mission along with other Christian ministries. Our staff has taken a leadership role in the National Day of Prayer and other events, like the Winter Jam in Mobile, AL, which sold out, packing in more than 10,000 – more than 4,400 of which made decisions.
Goforth Media also partners with national Christian ministries, inviting Christian musicians to visit our studios like 4Him. Goforth Media is also constantly working to improve its signal, adding a WBHY-FM translator antenna broadcasting at 103.5 in Spanish Fort/Daphne, AL, to improve coverage over the Spanish Fort, Daphne and Fairhope areas.
It is satisfying to receive so many letters of changed lives from listeners. But it is also a challenge – to keep up with the latest technology while at the same time staying true to the unchanging message that Christ is alive and changing lives in today’s world!
