The Educational Media Foundation (EMF) has a vision to communicate the Gospel through mass media to lead as many people as possible toward salvation and spiritual growth. It began with one station in 1982, and has grown to include two networks: K-LOVE and Air 1. Together they encompass over 600 listener-supported stations and translators in 46 states, with Internet streaming, and reach more than five million listeners each week with the great news of God’s love.

Fully recognizing that EMF is God’s ministry, their desire is to do all things with excellence. That begins with the quality and character of their 300+ staff members. The EMF leadership team is constantly seeking to better equip their staff professionally and personally, with the goal of cultivating a culture at headquarters that promotes ministry mindset. In September 2007, Mike Novak joined that team when he was named EMF’s President and CEO. Novak’s passion is not only to share the love of God with unbelievers, but also to encourage believers to step out of their comfort zones and get involved in ministry. His personal conviction is that there has never been a more critical time for all Christians to fully engage in the process of taking the Gospel message to the world around us, so he is particularly focused on those involved in Christian media, challenging them to step up and rally around the Great Commission.

This belief goes hand-in-hand with the ministry culture of EMF. “We no longer expect listeners to come to us – rather, we need to go where they are, showing them that we don’t just ‘talk the talk’ but that our walk is consistent with what we say,” says Novak. “We need to BE Christ to the world, not just say that we are a Christian.”

With that in mind, another of EMF’s goals is to become more active on a local level in communities, meeting people where they live and striving to minister more effectively. And understanding that technology is ever changing, EMF is also branching out to partner with other Christian media ministries around the world through radio, the Internet, and other media forms. They are excited about the future and look forward to seeing where God will lead and how He will use their ministry for His Kingdom.
