During decades of public ministry, Billy Graham has spoken countless times on a variety of topics and written dozens of books. In honor of his 91st birthday, we have selected some of Mr. Graham’s most thoughtful quotes, demonstrating his wisdom and his love for the Lord.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), which is celebrating 60 years of ministry in 2010, exists to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means available. Along with its well-known Crusade-style evangelism – first through BGEA founder Billy Graham, and now through events held by evangelists Franklin Graham and Will Graham – the ministry in recent years has developed several unique ways of reaching people around the world, right where they are. These include large-scale festivals; Dare to Be a Daniel, a youth evangelism training project; My Hope World Evangelism Through Television; the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team of crisis-trained chaplains; and many others through print, television, telephone, radio and the Internet.
In the summer of 2009, BGEA, under the leadership of Franklin Graham, strategically adapted the Crusade paradigm with a goal of reaching out to the youth of America. The result was the Rock the River Tour, a teen-focused series of evangelistic concerts that took place up the Mississippi River. Nearly 113,000 – mostly young people – attended the events and 2,300 made commitments to Christ.
The My Hope World Evangelism Through Television project has seen the Gospel proclaimed in homes and venues across more than 40 countries since 2002. During these grassroots, nationwide outreaches, BGEA partners with local churches and Christians to share the Good News with loved ones, friends and neighbors. More than nine million people worldwide have placed their faith in Jesus Christ through My Hope.
In the days following the tragedy of September 11, 2001, BGEA formed the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT), now a nationwide network of more than 3,000 crisis-trained chaplains who can – at a moment’s notice – come alongside churches following man-made and natural disasters and appropriately offer hope in times of sorrow. The RRT has deployed to more than 90 disaster sites in the U.S. and abroad and chaplains have prayed with more than 113,000 people, with 8,341 making commitments to Christ thus far.
Along with its own evangelism outreaches, BGEA is also training a new generation to boldly take a stand for their faith. Dare to Be a Daniel, a youth evangelism training ministry, is an effort to help Christian students share their faith and make a difference in their schools for Jesus Christ. More than 14,000 young people – an average of more than 10 per day – have completed one of the program’s individual or group trainings since its inception in 2006.
In addition to these outreaches, BGEA continues to minister to Christians and non-Christians alike through the Billy Graham Library, the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove, Decision magazine and various ministries via television, telephone, radio and the Internet.
