NRB Strategic Partnerships Prayer Newsletter
Faithful
The year 2012 has been an interesting one. Early this year I added the area of NRB Membership to the International work I have done for the past 4½ years. I love the opportunity to meet potential NRB members and share with them the value and importance I have found through my 30+ years as a member of the association of Christian broadcasters and communicators. As planned, that time has drawn to a close, and I am stepping back full-time into helping Christian broadcasters around the world.
I began to pray recently that, along with helping our ministry friends we have worked with through these years, I would have new opportunities to expand our reach and serve other ministries, organizations, and individuals who serve the Lord Jesus through the use of broadcasting and the electronic media. And I am beginning to see Him answer that prayer.
In January I will be in Russia with Christian broadcasters from across that vast land, and from some of the other former Soviet countries. I first had the opportunity to meet with these folks over 10 years ago when they first formed an association. Our dear friend, Dr. Hannu Haukka from Finland, has been instrumental in forming, guiding, and encouraging this group through all these years. I had the privilege to speak to them two years ago, and will be excited to be back with them.
In addition, we hope to visit a radio facility of a partner with FEBC, the Far East Broadcasting Company. Ed Cannon is the new president of FEBC, and will be with us in Russia, too.
There may be a possibility to assist one of the evangelical denominations in Russia, as they try to position themselves for greater evangelistic work in a country that is making it more and more difficult to be an evangelical Christian.
It appears that God is also opening the door for the possibility of helping Christian broadcasters in South Africa. There is a conference late next spring, and we are exploring an invitation to speak to this group.
Add this to the 12-14 ministries we keep in contact with regularly, and we see God opening more doors for the spread of the Gospel, and giving more opportunities to assist and encourage those He has called out for His work. He has been faithful. I resonate with the words of the Apostle Paul to young Timothy:
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me,
because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.
1 Timothy 1:12
As I write this, some of the words of a song by Dámaris Carbaugh and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir come to my mind:
Every word He's promised is true.
What I thought was impossible
I've seen my God do.
He's been faithful,
Faithful to me.
Looking back His love and mercy I see.
Though in my heart I have questioned,
Even failed to believe,
He's been faithful, faithful to me….
Aren’t you glad that the Lord’s faithfulness doesn’t depend on our belief, our faithfulness, our anything? He is faithful because that is His nature. God couldn’t be anything else but faithful. What a blessed truth that is in our day.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful;
Hebrews 10:23
Prayer Opportunities
Balkans Media Training – The latest information is that some 120 or more Christian broadcasters from eight countries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East will meet in Sofia, Bulgaria, for a media training conference. NRB member Moody Broadcasting in Chicago is organizing and leading this meeting November 12-16. It is a follow-up to a successful training time NRB organized and led two years ago in Romania.
Dr. Frank Wright and I will be there as part of the teaching team, as numerous workshops will be held in radio, television, new media, and ministry management.
For me, this time is an opportunity to meet with several of the ministries we have worked with for several years. Their dedication always inspires me. We will be looking for new ways to help them accomplish what God has called them to do in this coming year.
Pray for the ministries represented at the conference. Pray for their safe journey to Sofia, as many of the attendees will be coming by bus from Romania and Albania.
Pray for all who will be teaching at the conference. Along with the team from Moody Broadcasting will be our NRB group, and two from In Touch Ministries in Atlanta. They’ll be teaching in the television track.
Urgent Prayer Request - One of the ministries we work with has received threats and has had some of their staff attacked. They are proclaiming the hope of Christ in an almost totally Muslim country. Now they are having to move their new studios to another location for the safety of their staff. While I won't mention the country or ministry due to sensitivity, your prayers will mean much to this faithful team of Christian broadcasters who are serving in the face of personal danger.
New Opportunities - As 2013 approaches I have a sense that we will be busy. With the meetings in Russia in January, our NRB 2013 Convention in March, a trip to South Africa in May or June, and the strong possibility of another media training seminar in India, we know there is much to do. Pray that God will provide the financial resources and the direction needed to accomplish His will in these days.
I am grateful to see many of our NRB members involved in media training around the world. As I have said before, there is not LESS need for the Gospel today. In what may be our final days before Jesus comes, I want to be found serving, helping, encouraging, mentoring, training, and witnessing to the saving hope found only in Jesus.
Finally...
If you would, I have a personal prayer request. I a m scheduled to return on Sunday, November 18, though my arrival is actually scheduled at 12:50 a.m. on Monday the 19th. That same evening I am to emcee the Dallas Baptist University’s Russell Perry Dinner, a major event for this outstanding Christian school. Pray that my flights and connections will happen without delays as I return to the US and DFW. I am honored to help DBU with this important event, and I want to be sure I am there…and at my best. Thank you!
