Manassas, VA – This year marks the 65th anniversary of the National Religious Broadcasters Association (NRB). Founded in 1944, in response to an inability to secure unfettered access to the airwaves, NRB has grown into an international organization whose member organizations represent millions of listeners, viewers, and readers worldwide.
Dr. Frank Wright, President & CEO said, “NRB’s founders came together to face a great challenge, yet they experienced a surprising blessing, as the unity forged out of those early trials continued in bonds of fellowship that have extended from generation to generation down to this day.”
In 1943, Christian broadcasting faced its first major trial, as evangelical broadcast ministers were virtually unable to purchase airtime. In response to this challenge, a group of visionary leaders formed a committee, which later became the National Religious Broadcasters. In April 1944, a group of 150 Gospel broadcasters met in Columbus, Ohio drafting the Statement of Faith, Constitution, Bylaws and Code of Ethics. On September 21, 1944 NRB held a constitutional convention in the Moody Memorial Church in Chicago, at which time it was decided to incorporate and on December 18, 1944, NRB was awarded its charter of incorporation by the state of Delaware.
