Bob Powers, Vice President of

Government Relations

Powers 08 Headshot4x6.jpgBob Powers is the Capitol Hill liaison for the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), a position he has held since 2006.  As NRB’s Vice President of Government Relations, Powers focuses daily on communicating the needs of Christian broadcasters to members of Congress, the FCC, and others in the Executive branch. Powers also works with coalitions and prominent Capitol Hill insiders to ensure that NRB is fully and clearly represented in all sectors related to legislation and national policy decision-making. 

Prior to 2006, Bob spent five years as NRB’s Director of Media and Public Relations.  In that role he garnered a significant amount of media exposure for the Association, including a feature on NBC’s Nightly News. Powers was also able to place articles in the Chicago Tribune, Columbia Journalism, Review, The Jerusalem Post, Los Angeles Times, NBC Nightly News, Newsweek, The New York Times, People, MSNBC’s Scarborough & Country, U.S. News & World Report, USA Today, The Washington Post, and The Washington Times. He pioneered Inside NRB, the Association’s first HTML-intensive email newsletter, which continues to be sent weekly to more than 3,000 NRB members.

Before joining NRB, Powers was an award-winning top sales person in the large business sales division of one of “Baby Bell’s” Ameritech/SBC (now AT&T) both in Milwaukee, WI, and Chicago, IL.  His top retail clients included: The Children’s Place, Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, J-Crew, and Williams-Sonoma, to name a few.  Prior to working for Ameritech/SBC, Powers worked in the sales and marketing division of his family’s vitamin manufacturing business.  In that role, Powers wrote advertising materials and made appearances in Chicago area Health Foods Stores and on radio programs.

Powers earned his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1993, where he served as the student news director at the Campus Radio Station.  In that role he gained experience as an on air reporter, producer, anchor, and reporter for various news programs on the Campus cable channel. Powers also had a 3-month internship working with the evening anchors at WTMJ-Channel 4 (NBC affiliate) in Milwaukee, WI.
